Some people measure time in hours and minutes. At BoujieMana, we measure it in shared plates. Warm pita dragged through creamy hummus. Charred octopus brightened with citrus. Roasted artichokes paired with fragrant saffron chicken.

One after another, vibrant dishes arrive, slowly filling tables and turning dinner into an occasion. Conversations begin to stretch a little longer, candlelight flickers, and laughter drifts across the room. Friends debate what Mediterranean-inspired creation to order next. Another glass of wine appears. And somehow, no one seems in a hurry to leave.

For the past three years, we’ve had the privilege of helping San Diegans lose track of time at BoujieMana.

And today, we’re thrilled to share that BoujieMana has been recognized among San Diego’s favorite Mediterranean restaurants as part of Ranch & Coast Magazine’s Best Restaurants 2026 Readers’ Choice awards.

This recognition means a great deal to us because it reflects something we love about Mediterranean culture itself: Great food has a way of bringing people together, but hospitality is what makes them want to stay.

The Mediterranean Tradition That Inspires Us Most

When people think about Mediterranean cuisine, they often think about the food first. The perfectly cooked Branzino finished with fresh herbs and lemon. The dry-aged ribeye that fills the air with its rich aroma before it ever reaches the table. The colorful collection of small plates meant for sharing. The cocktails that arrive looking almost too beautiful to drink.

Those dishes are certainly part of the story.

For BoujieMana founder Samer Khouli, however, the story has always been bigger than the menu.

Growing up in a Syrian family, some of life’s most meaningful moments happened around the table. Meals were abundant, guests were welcomed wholeheartedly, and conversations often lasted long after the food was gone. Gathering together wasn’t reserved for special occasions. It was simply part of everyday life.

That spirit can be found throughout much of the Mediterranean. Hospitality isn’t viewed as a service standard or a business strategy. It’s a way of caring for people. It’s the instinct to pull up another chair, order another plate for the table, and make sure everyone feels welcome before thinking about anything else.

That philosophy has shaped BoujieMana from the very beginning.

Every detail of BoujieMana is designed with that philosophy in mind – including our name. “Boujie” reflects our appreciation for refined artistry, elevated dining, and the beauty of a thoughtfully crafted experience. “Mana” speaks to something deeper: a sense of nourishment, gratitude, and fulfillment that extends beyond the meal itself.

Together, they represent what we’ve always hoped BoujieMana would be. A place where exceptional food and genuine hospitality come together around one table. The menu encourages sharing. The atmosphere invites people to settle in. The experience is meant to feel celebratory, whether you’re marking a major milestone or simply enjoying dinner with people you love.

Over the years, we’ve watched guests celebrate engagements, birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, and reunions around our tables. We’ve seen first dates turn into second dates. Business dinners become friendships. Ordinary weeknights become memorable evenings.

Those moments are part of what makes hospitality so meaningful.

The food may bring people through the door, but connection is what transforms a restaurant into a place people want to return to again and again.

Hospitality Beyond Our Dining Room

The idea of hospitality has shaped more than our menu and dining experience. It’s also shaped the way we think about our role in the community.

In many Mediterranean cultures, generosity and hospitality go hand in hand. Caring for people extends beyond the guests sitting at your table. It becomes a way of showing up for neighbors, friends, and the broader community.

That belief inspired Boujie Hearts Always Give.

Since opening our doors, we’ve committed a portion of our proceeds every month to supporting nonprofits and causes making a difference throughout San Diego and beyond. What began as a simple desire to give back has grown into more than $104,000 in charitable giving since 2024.

Every shared meal has helped make that possible. Every celebration, date night, business dinner, and weekend brunch has contributed to something larger than itself.

We often talk about hospitality as creating a place where people feel welcomed, cared for, and connected. Through Boujie Hearts Always Give, we have the opportunity to extend that same spirit beyond our dining room and into the community we call home.

To us, that’s one of the most meaningful things a meal can do.
